US FIRST
What it means to this team?
What is FIRST?
Founded by Dean Kamen in 1989, FIRST, a non-profit educational organization. FIRST aspires high school students to think of science, engineering, technology, and math not only as classes you take in school but as something entertaining as well.
What's the Point?
FIRST has its annual Robotics competition which various high school across the U.S. compete in. In order for the students to compete they must build a robot with the help of different mentors and sponsors. Both students and mentors are giving six weeks to build the robot. In this time they design, assemble, and they test the robot capability of performing the task given for the game.
The 2007 Game "Rack 'N' Roll "

This year's FIRST Robotics game is Rack 'N' Roll.

At the start of the match is the fist scoring period when all the robots go to autonomous mode and try to put a keeper tube on one of the spider leg racks with the color cision tracking system. Once the keeper is placed it canot be spoiled with the black tube or removed. This would last 15 seconds and the drivers may not touch the controls untill the 15 seconds are up.

The second period last two minutes and during this time the robots ae controled by the drivers. During this time the robots are used as ringers to score as many points as possible. The robots may also use spoilers which are black tubes that can be put on the opposing alliances tubes to cancel them out and make them invalid. You score points by consecutively putting ringers in rows or columns. Teams may score extra points if their robots are in thei home zone and have been lifted off the floor by 4" or more by another robot by the time the final buzzer sounds.

Volunteers
FIRST success is the work of many volunteers. The volunteers consist of professionals in engineering and computers, teachers, college students and other adults who want to help high school students. There are also thousands of team mentors, and committee volunteers. Through the volunteers the program has increased with over 70,000 students participating. FIRST is growing rapidly in the U.S. and Canada and demand is accelerating in other countries.
